Under the present six-mile delimitation, Greek territorial waters comprise nearly 43.5 percent of the Aegean Sea. For Turkey the percentage is only 7.5 percent. The remaining 49 percent is international waters of the high seas.
If Greece were to extend it territorial waters to 12 nautical miles in the Aegean, it would increase its control to 71 percent, while Turkey’s share would go up to 8.8 percent. The high seas would be reduced to less than 20 percent.
