Hakan Fidan: Foreign Ministry redone
Source:Ragip Soylu blog Date:27Jun2024
This is a blog post from Ragip Soylu, one my favorite Turkey commentators who produce work in English. I highly recommend you occasionally visit his blog site:
Earlier this year he made major changes at the ministry by increasing the number of directorate generals, merging files like Iran and Iraq, establishing an intelligence and security affairs department, dividing large files in Africa by creating director-general positions for south, west and east Africa, and appointing a separate director general for Latin America.
He has appointed an ambassador for the Central Asia and Organisation of Turkic States, underlining the importance of Turkey’s Asia pivot in coming years.
His moves also included officially making the foreign ministry as the coordinating body for the country’s foreign policy in every field including defence policies and the defence industry.
He also empowered the spokesperson position, mimicking the US State Department and transformed the information directorate general into a strategic communications mindset, aiming to reach a wider audience through several channels.
